PHAGWARA: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the CIA Staff Police have arrested three individuals in two separate cases involving a significant seizure of opium and heroin. The arrests were made under the supervision of SP (D) Sarabjit Rai, who briefed the media about the developments.

In the first case, during a routine patrol near Talwandi Mehima, a police team led by DSP (D) Parminder Singh and CIA Incharge Inspector Jarnail Singh apprehended Anil Kumar, a resident of Bihar. Upon checking, the police recovered 2.6 kilograms of opium from his possession. A case has been registered against him at Sadar Police Station, and he was taken into custody. Police have also named his accomplice, Santosh, who has reportedly fled back to Bihar. Raids are underway to trace and arrest him.

In a separate operation, the CIA team achieved another breakthrough when they arrested two individuals with heroin. Acting on a tip-off, ASI Kawal Singh, under the leadership of Inspector Jarnail Singh, intercepted a Mahindra Bolero camper near Kanjli. Two accused — Major Singh and Lakhwinder Singh alias Kalu, both residents of village Jogiwal under Ajnala police station, district Amritsar — were taken into custody. With the guidance of DSP Jasbir Singh, a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 250 grams of heroin.

Both accused were booked at Kotwali Police Station and remanded to police custody for further interrogation.

SP Sarabjit Rai, along with DSP Parminder Singh and the CIA team, emphasized the department’s continued efforts to combat the drug menace in the region
