UILS Organizes 'Ansuni Awaz': A Talk Show on Legal Framework for Trans Persons

CHANDIGARH: The University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS), Panjab University (PU), today organized an interactive talk show titled "Ansuni Awaz, " focusing on the legal framework for transgender persons.

The talk show was held in collaboration with Rainbow (Centre for Trans Studies), The Humsafar Trust, Mumbai, and Saksham Prakriti Welfare Society, Chandigarh at the Moot Court Hall of UILS. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty, and transgender rights activists.

Prominent speakers included Ms. Nilofer, Project Coordinator at The Humsafar Trust; Mx. Dhananjay Chauhan, a member of the Chandigarh Transgender Welfare Board and Advocate for transgender rights at Panjab University; and Mr. Shivaay, a renowned transgender activist. They addressed key legal challenges faced by the transgender community, including anti-discrimination laws, gender identity recognition issues, and the urgent need for stronger legal protections.

The speakers emphasised the importance of inclusive legal frameworks and shared their personal experiences in navigating barriers within the legal system. The event fostered open dialogue, encouraging students to engage and become advocates for change.

The interactive atmosphere was enhanced by active participation from both students and faculty members, who were encouraged to ask questions, share their thoughts, and contribute to discussions, making the session dynamic and thought-provoking.

"Ansuni Awaz" was organized under the patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Shruti Bedi, Director of UILS, with coordination from faculty members Prof. Gulshan Kumar and Prof. Navneet Arora. Faculty in-charge Dr. Shafali and Dr. Supreet ensured the event's seamless execution.

The event concluded successfully, leaving a lasting impact on the audience and furthering important discussions on transgender rights and legal equality.
