The 28th Punjab Science Congress Commences at KCA

AMRITSAR: Khalsa College Amritsar is hosting the three- day-long 28th Punjab Science Congress and National Conference on “Current Trends in Science and Technology” under the aegis of Punjab Academy of Science, Patiala. Dr. Mehal Singh, Vice Chancellor of Khalsa University, Amritsar; Prof. Tarlok Singh, President of Punjab Acdemey of Sciences and Prof. N.R. Dhamiwal, Secretary PAS were guests of honour. Dr. Arun Chandan, Regional Director, RIMMS, Prof. Sunil Kumar Singla, Head, Electrical Engineering TIET, Prof. R.C. Sobti, former Vice Chancellor, Panjab University Chandigarh and Prof Satwinderjeet Kaur, DOBES, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar were the resource persons of the event.

The inaugural ceremony commenced with the College Shabad followed by the floral welcome of the guests by Dr. Arvinder Kaur Kahlon , Principal and Dr. Taminder Singh, Coordinator, PSC-2025. S. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina in his presidential address urged people to adopt scientific temperament and outlook as it is necessary for the progress of the society and the nation. He emphasized the need to nurture the spirit of innovation in young minds to bring out scientific discoveries for the welfare of the people. Dr. Mehal Singh appreciated the endeavors of the Punjab Science Congress and congratulated Khalsa College for hosting the event.

Dr. Kahlon in her address informed about glorious history of the college. She further apprised that alumni of the college have highly contributed to science in various capacities and have been serving different institutions and organizations in various capacities. Dr. Taminder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs of the College and Coordinator of PSC-2025 said that college constantly organizes such events for the holistic development of the students.

Dr. Rajbir Singh Sohi, the organizing secretary of the PSC-2025 made the audience familiar with the programme of the 28th Punjab Science Congress. He informed that the programme is organized by the entire faculty of Sciences of the college under the patronage of Punjab Academy of Sciences, Patiala. The Congress awarded lifetime achievement awards and fellowships to eminent personalities for their scientific achievements. Prof. N.R. Dhamiwal, Secretary Punjab Academy of Sciences announced lifetime achievement award for Prof. A.S. Ahluwalia, Professor (retired), Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Honorary Fellowship of Punjab Academy of Sciences was awarded to Prof. H.N. Yadav AIIMS, New Delhi, Prof. Sidharth Sharma, TIET, Patiala and Dr. Salinder Kaur PAU, Ludhiana. The Er. Gurcharan Singh Oration awards in Electrical Engineering was awarded to Dr. Sunil Kumar Singla, TIET Patiala. Desh Bhagat S. Lal Singh Oration Award in Medicines was begged by Dr. Rajiv Sood, V.C. BFUHS. At end of the inaugural ceremony, Dr. Harwinder Kaur, Dean Faculty of Sciences presented the vote of thanks.
