AMRITSAR: The second day of the ongoing Festival of Science at Khalsa College, Amritsar, was a vibrant celebration of scientific curiosity and innovation.
A large number of school and college students participated enthusiastically in a variety of engaging, hands-on science activities designed to ignite their passion for exploration and learning.
The day began with a thought-provoking lecture titled "The Creation of the Universe" delivered by Prof. Suman B. Beri, a distinguished physicist from Panjab University, Chandigarh. The session captivated the audience, offering a glimpse into the profound mysteries of the cosmos.
Students showcased their creativity and scientific knowledge through a Quiz Competition and an exhibition of innovative models focused on science and environmental themes. Their ingenious creations reflected a deep understanding of scientific principles and their application in addressing real-world challenges.
The highlight of the day was an exhilarating workshop on Rocket Making, where school students collaborated in groups to learn the intricate art of building model rockets. The excitement reached its peak during the Rocket Launch Activity, supervised by Akash Ekka, a former ISRO scientist. This practical session not only demonstrated the mechanics of rocketry but also inspired budding scientists to dream big.
Over 1000 students visited the various STEM activity stalls, which presented science in an interactive and engaging manner. The hands-on demonstrations and activities left the participants thrilled and deeply intrigued by the marvels of science.
Adding to the day’s inspiration, an interactive session was held where students had the unique opportunity to engage with eminent women scientists – Prof. Suman Beri, who was associated with the Geneva experiment on Particle Physics, Prof. Neha Sardana, a Materials Scientist from IIT Ropar and Prof. Vasudha Sambyal, a geneticist from GNDU. This session underscored the pivotal role of women in shaping the scientific landscape and motivated young learners to pursue careers in science and technology.
The evening was reserved for an unforgettable experience under the stars. Students enjoyed Night Sky Watching, marveling at celestial wonders, followed by the screening of thought-provoking science films that celebrated human curiosity and innovation.
