AMRITSAR: In a thought-provoking program organized by the School of Punjabi Studies at Guru Nanak Dev University, diaspora Punjabi writer Mrs. Neelam Laj Saini shared her insights on diaspora Punjabi literature and her creative process with faculty, research students, and attendees.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Dr. Manjinder Singh, Head of the Department, who presented Mrs. Saini with a sapling as a gesture of appreciation.

He noted that America has emerged as a global hub for economic, literary, and cultural activities and highlighted the significance of Neelam Laj Saini's work, which captures the mental conflicts faced by Punjabis in America. Mrs. Saini, born on August 25, 1966, and a migrant since 1997, spoke about her journey and creative vision. She emphasized her commitment to moving away from negative influences and fostering positive interests.

Expressing her concern over the new generation's growing disconnect from their mother tongue and heritage, she dedicated her novel *Alvida Kabdi Bhi Nahin* to her life partner, Mr. Laj Saini. Throughout her immigrant life, she has authored several notable works, including *Harfan Di Dor*, *Aks*, *Udhare Palan Di Dastan*, *Kani Nu Lavade Ghungroo*, and *Lat Lat Balda Diva*. Dr. Baljit Kaur Riar effectively managed the stage for the event, highlighting Mrs. Saini’s deep connection with folklore in her writings.
