Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari presides over 44th convocation and annual prize distribution function of GGSCW-26

CHANDIGARH: Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh, marked a significant milestone as it celebrated its 44th Convocation and Annual Prize Distribution for the academic session 2024–2025. The occasion was one of immense pride and joy, as more than 400 degrees were conferred upon students across undergraduate programmes including BA, BCom, BCA, and BSc, as well as postgraduate courses comprising MA English, MA Economics, and M.Com.

Member of Parliament, Manish Tewari, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Rashanpreet Kaur, International Hockey Player and an illustrious alumna of the college, was the Guest of Honour.

The event commenced with the ceremonial academic procession, led by Manish Tewari, lending a dignified and solemn air to the proceedings.

In his address, Mr. Tewari offered a deeply reflective and inspiring message to the graduating students. He spoke about the significance of staying rooted in one’s cultural and moral values, especially in a world undergoing rapid transformation due to technological advancement and artificial intelligence. Drawing from his own spiritual experience at Sri Anandpur Sahib, he highlighted the importance of perseverance, ethical grounding, and national pride. He urged students to maintain intellectual curiosity, embrace lifelong learning, and remain agile in a fast-changing world without compromising on integrity or compassion.

As a powerful gesture of his commitment to women’s education and institutional development, Mr. Tewari announced a grant of ₹10 lakh to the college from his MPLADS fund. He expressed hope that the contribution would support the college’s continued efforts in empowering young women and enhancing educational infrastructure.

Ms. Rashanpreet Kaur, in her motivating words, encouraged students to rise above societal expectations and shared her personal journey at the college as a source of strength and inspiration.

The event was also graced by S. Gurdev Singh, (Retd. I.A.S), President, Sikh Educational Society (SES); Col. (Retd.) Jasmer Singh Bala, Secretary, SES; and Er. S.S. Virdi, Member of the Executive Committee, SES, whose continued guidance and support play a vital role in the institution’s growth and success. Mr. Chander Mukhi Sharma Secretary General South Asian BasketBall Association & Judge FIBA Appeals Panel Geneva Switzerland was also present on the occasion.

The Convocation was followed by the Annual Prize Distribution ceremony, where around 150 students were felicitated for excellence in academics, cultural activities, and sports—celebrating the all-round talent nurtured by the college.

Principal Dr. Jatinder Kaur presented the Annual Report, highlighting the institution’s progress in academics, extracurriculars, and community outreach. She proudly announced the college’s recent reaccreditation with NAAC Grade A+, a testament to its sustained pursuit of excellence. She thanked the dignitaries for their presence and encouragement and congratulated the students for their dedication and accomplishments.

The event concluded on a high note, with a strong sense of achievement and renewed commitment to the college’s vision of empowering young women through education and holistic development.
