BIRMINGHAM: Wicket-keeper and left-handed batter Yastika Bhatia on Sunday was named as the concussion substitute for Taniyaa Bhatia in the gold medal match of 2022 Commonwealth Games against Australia at Edgbaston on Sunday.
Taniyaa was hit on the back of her head while keeping wickets as the ball deflected off her gloves during India's bowling in the first innings. "Wicket-keeper Yastika Bhatia is the concussion substitute for Taniyaa Bhatia, who was hit on the back of her head while keeping wickets during India's bowling in the first innings, " said an official update from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their Twitter handle.
It is not the first time that India had to bring out a concussion replacement for Taniyaa. During the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Taniyaa had to retire hurt in the second over after getting hit on the helmet while going for a sweep against left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen. That time, teenager Richa Ghosh was her concussion replacement.
