KAPURTHALA:An unidentified clean shaven person (22)appears to be an migrant labour was lynched to death by the furious mob on the sacrilege incident at Gurdwara Nizampur on Kapurthala-Subhnapur road here in the early hours of this morning.
The Gurdwara Granthi Amarjit Singh in a complaint to the police said the victim was desecrating the Nishan Sahib of the Gurdwara .
SP Investigation Jagjit Singh Saroya when contacted confirmed the incident. He told that around 4am one unidentified person went to the kitchen of the Gurdwara and was eating chapattis after baking on the gas burner and was spotted by a sewadar of the gurdwara.On seeing the sewadar , the victim run away in the nearby fields and he was caught by the sewadars after a chase of about half an hour.
He was brought back to the Gurdwara where he was severally beaten and locked in a room of the Gurdwara and made his video viral.
On seeing the viral video , more than 300 furiated residents of village Nizampur and people from far of places assembled there and entered the room after breaking the windows of the room and attacked him with swords and lathis and beaten him to death.
The police when saw the viral video, rushed to the scene of incident and found that the victim was locked in a room of the Gurdwara and tried to save the victim but angry mob did not allow the police to take the victim to police station and reportedly even roughed up with the police.The victim was beaten to death in the presence of police who tried in vain to save the victim.
The police brought the victim in a severally injured condition to the local civil hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead.
SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh when contacted said it was not a sacrilege incident and the intention of the victim was to commit a theft in the Gurdwara.
He said police has identified 5-6 accused and registered a murder case against them and mob.
The police sources said the victim was found roaming near the gurdwara for the past over a week and he was hungry and went to the gurdwara in search of food .
