JAGRAON: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Sukhbir Singh Badal today visited the family of Jathedar Gurdev Singh Kaunke along with Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) president Harjinder Singh Dhami and assured it complete support, including legal assistance to ensure justice for the late Jathedar.
The Committee constituted by the SGPC to assist the family in securing justice for the kidnapping, torture and eventual murder of Jathedar Kaunke by the police during the tenure of Congress chief minister Beant Singh also accompanied the SAD President. They visited the family at their residence in Kaunke village.
Mr Sukhbir Badal spent time with the family members including the late Jathedar’s son Hari Singh and wife Gurdev Kaur and listened to the entire episode concerning the kidnapping and eventual elimination of the Jathedar. The family members disclosed that Beant Singh himself misdirected the probe into the case by denying the incident and covering it up.
Mr Badal assured the family that the SAD and the SGPC would extend all possible help to them. Mr Badal said a panel of lawyers would be constituted to launch a legal battle to ensure punishment for all those responsible for eliminating Jathedar Kaunke.
Meanwhile the Kaunke family honoured the SAD president and thanked him for extending support to it. Senior leaders including Balwinder Singh Bhundar, Dr Daljeet Cheema, Maheshinder Singh Grewal, Hira Singh Gabria, Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Gurcharan Grewal, Virsa Singh Valtoha, Bhagwant Singh Sialka, SR Kler and Sunny Gill accompanied the SAD president.
