CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal president Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal today strongly condemned the “shocking” incident in which Bibi Armanjot Kaur, an Advocate & Amrithdari Sikh from Jalandhar, was barred from taking her Judicial Services exam for not parting with her sacred kirpan. Wearing Kirpan is one of the five Kakars and is a part of the Sikh Rehat Maryada.

“This incident is an outrage against the sacred practices of our religion and I am not only deeply saddened but also surprised that the targetting of the most patriotic Sikh quom continues even 77 years after independence. The Sikh quom made unprecedented and unparalleled sacrifices in the freedom struggle.”

Mr Badal strongly urged Rajasthan Chief Minister Sh Bhajan Lal Sharma to arrange a special chance to enable Bibi Armanjot Kaur to appear in a special exam as she missed it for no fault of hers.

“I also urge the Rajasthan Chief Minister to ensure that the guilty members of the concerned exam staff are given an exemplary punishment to the guilty exam staff to ensure that such incidents don’t happen again.
