AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has demanded release of sikh detainees lodged in various jails of the country for the last three decades on the occasion of Khalsa Sajna Diwas Vaisakhi.
He said that on the historic day of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev ji, the government of India had announced release of Sikh prisoners which has not come into effect yet.
He said that on the occasion of Khalsa Sajna Diwas Vaisakhi being celebrated by the Sikh community on April 14, the Government of India should take the initiative to release the prisoners.
He also questioned the Kejriwal government in Delhi which was an impediment to the release of Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar and said that Kejriwal could never give justice to the Sikhs.
He said that if Kejriwal had been a Sikh supporter he would have taken a positive decision in the release of Prof. Bhullar.
Advocate Dhami said that the Government of India itself should come forward for the release of the captive Sikhs and Prof. Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, Balwant Singh Rajoana and Jagtar Singh Hawara and other Sikh prisoners who have been lodged in jails for more than 30 years should be released immediately.
It may be recalled that during the budget session of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on March 30, a resolution seeking the release of the prisoners was passed and sent to the government.
