CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal has demanded registration of a criminal case against AAP legislator Narinder Bharaj for forcing Truck Union leader Manjit Singh Kaka Phaguwala to commit suicide by consuming poison as she ignored his right for the post of President and sold the post for Rs. 55 lakh to another claimant.

Addressing a press conference here, senior SAD leader Winnerjit Singh Goldy said when AAP had come to power in 2022 there was widespread resentment among truck operators of Bhawanigarh as Narinder Kaur Bharaj tried to sell posts of truck unions. He said at that time it was agreed to nominate Presidents for one year terms each.

He said Manjit Singh Kaka Phaguwala was to assume charge as President in the third year in 2025 for which he had paid Rs. 30 lakh to Narinder Bharaj.

He said instead of allowing Manjit Singh Kaka Phaguwala to assume charge, Bharaj sold the post to another claimant by taking Rs. 55 lakh from him.

He said Manjit Singh Kaka was so depressed by this decision of Bharaj that he consumed poison in a bid to commit suicide and was now undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Patiala.

Goldy demanded that a criminal case be registered against Bharaj for inciting Manjit to commit suicide and resorting to corruption by selling posts.
