Brahmpura Shares Grief with Family After Student's Fatal Shooting on Canadian Soil
TARN TARAN: Shiromani Akali Dal Vice President and Khadoor Sahib constituency in-charge, Ravinder Singh Brahmpura, today visited the grieving family of Harsimrat Kaur Randhawa, a resident of village Dhunda, following her untimely demise in Canada after suffering a fatal gunshot wound.
On this solemn occasion, Brahmpura conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and personally met with Harsimrat Kaur’s grandfather, former Sarpanch Sukhwinder Singh Jagirdar, and her father, Bikram Singh Jagirdar. He also provided the latest updates received from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs regarding the ongoing process to repatriate Harsimrat Kaur’s mortal remains to India.
Expressing his sorrow, Brahmpura stated, “Harsimrat Kaur Randhawa was a bright and promising daughter of Dhunda village who had travelled to Ontario, Canada, to pursue her medical studies. The entire Khadoor Sahib region is in shock and deep mourning after this tragic and untimely loss, as she fell victim to a stray bullet during an altercation between two groups.”
Brahmpura further informed that, acting immediately upon the family’s request, he wrote directly to the Honourable External Affairs Minister of India, Mr. S. Jaishankar, urging for his intervention to ensure the swift repatriation of Harsimrat Kaur’s body to her native village for her final rites. He also strongly appealed to the Canadian authorities to deliver justice in this deeply sensitive matter.
Providing assurance to the grieving family, Mr. Brahmpura relayed that, through his consistent efforts, the Indian Consulate in Toronto, in active coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, is providing every possible assistance. According to official communication, support is being extended directly to Harsimrat Kaur’s family members residing in Canada to expedite the process of returning her remains. Canadian authorities have informed that the death certificate is likely to be received by Friday, following which the Indian Consulate will finalize all documentation, aiming to send the mortal remains to India by Saturday.
Standing in solidarity with the family, Brahmpura stated, “As a humble servant of my constituency, I consider it my foremost duty to offer every possible support to Harsimrat Kaur’s family in this darkest hour. Words cannot truly express the depth of this pain, but together, through shared grief, we can offer courage and strength.” Drawing inspiration from his late father, Jathedar Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, he reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people selflessly, as he was always guided by his father’s noble teachings.
Several community leaders and dignitaries were also present during Brahmpura’s visit, including former Sarpanch Sukhwinder Singh, former Sarpanch Jagtar Singh Dhunda, former Sarpanch Kuldeep Singh Lahoria, Karnail Singh Pardhan, Panchayat Member Balkar Singh, Kundan Singh Fauji, Amar Singh Dhunda, Harbhajan Singh Rathore, Panchayat Member Varinder Jyoti, Bikr Singh, Jai Singh, Amarjit Singh, Jathedar Gajjan Singh, and other prominent personalities, all of whom extended their deepest condolences to the family.
