CHANDIGARH: Punjab government today suspended IAS officer D.K.Tiwari Pricipal Secretary rural development and Panchayats and Gurpreet Singh Khaira Director of the department after government was forced to withdraw the decision of dissolving 13000 Panchayats from the High court.
Punjab government faced embarrassment in the Punjab and Haryana High court when High court questioned the government for disoolving the 13000 panchayats six months before completion of the five year term. The government lawyer told the court that they have withdrwan the order on technical grounds and election of Panchayats will be held on due date in December 2023.
Both the officers were responsible for guiding the government on issue of dissolving the panchayats. It is believed the officers misled the government on provision in the Panchayats act.
