PATIALA: Suspecting fould play the farmers have started permanent morcha outside the mortuary in Rajindera hospital and medical college Patiala where the dead body of the young farmer Shubkaran Singh is kept. Shubhkaran had died in firing by Haryana police at Khanauri post on Punjab and Haryana border in February 21 last.
The farmers have been demanding to register FIR against the police personnel who are responsible for the unprovoked firing on farmers killing 21 year old Shubhkaran Singh and injuring several others. Shubhkaran had joined the farmer's protest at Khanauri border. The smk(non-political) had given call for Dilli Chalo but Haryana police had stopped the farmers at Khanauri and Shambhu check points where heavy barcading is done.
The Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann is trying to diffuse the situation and senior police officers are allegedly pressurising the family of deceased farmer to give consent for the post mortem and cremation of dead body.
three days have passed but the medical authorities are awaiting nod of the family to conduct post mortem. A five member medical board was also constituted to conduct the post mortem. The Chief Minister had also announced to give a compensation of Rs. One crore to the victim's family and offered government job to the younger sister of Shubhkaran.
The farmer leaders suspect that Punjab government may forcible cremate the dead body and they decided to sit in front of mortuary foil any such attempt. The farmers are adament that they would not allow the cremation of dead body unless FIR is lodged against the Haryana police officials.
The opposition parties including SAD and Congress have demanded registration of FIR against Haryana Home Minister Anil Viz and police officers responsible for the killing. The opposition has also demanded to register a case of kidnapping and tirture of a Sikh youth Pritpal Singh. He was allegedly forcibly dragged by Haryana police from Punjab terittory and tortured. He was then admitted to PGI Rohtak. But yesterday after Punjab government and SAD leaders intervened, the seriously injured youth was shifted to PGI Chandigarh.
