MOHALI: Punjab Unaided Colleges Association (PUCA) has urged Punjab Government to start technical courses in punjabi language.
Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, PUCA said that the AICTE has already permitted technical courses in regional languages and Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu states has permitted their engineering colleges to offer B.Tech programmes in Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam and Bengali, Assamese and Oriya languages.
But the students studying in IKG-PTU, Jalandhar, MRSPTU, Bathinda and PSBTE, New Delhi in around 400 affiliated teachnical colleges are studying in english only. These above Universities / Board has not yet introduced technical courses in punjabi language.
Kataria further added that in the courses like polytechnic, B.Tech, B.Pharma, BBA, BCA, MBA etc, the majority of students leave the course in first year only as they failed to cope up with the english medium. If these courses are started in punjabi then the students from rural area can also think to become an engineer or management expert.
