AMRITSAR: As per the adage of "Time prayers and wells clash", the snake line crossed by Congress leader and famous cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu is being beaten. Had it gone, the Congress might not have been in this situation and not only 18 but 36 seats would have been secured.
Even when Navjot Singh Sidhu got the presidency of Punjab Pradesh Congress, Sidhu had raised a lot of fuss that if the presidency was not given then he could do anything.
The High Command gave the presidency to please Sidhu but instead of supporting the then Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, he criticized his every move and did not allow him to work and even threatened to resign several times. The manner in which Sidhu, a self-proclaimed celebrity, has been tarnished by the totally new Bibi Jivanjot Kaur in politics, will probably live on for a lifetime.
Even after the defeat, the Congress has become the capital of strife and even today they are not shying away from attacking each other.
Sukhpal Singh Khaira is being termed as a suitable candidate for the post by Navjot Singh Sidhu as Khaira is the person who took the seat of a minister when he was the Leader of the Opposition of the Aam Aadmi Party. That Khaira should not become the Leader of the Opposition.
Although Sidhu resigned from the presidency after the defeat of the Congress, he has now started a show of strength to retake the presidency and it is in this context that Sidhu has started meetings with Congressmen in various cities and so far. Five meetings have been held. First Sidhu held a meeting in Amritsar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana and Patiala and then in Amritsar today in which only Sukhpal Singh Khaira is present among the present MLAs. Sukhi Randhawa MLA Dera Baba Nanak, Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa MLA Dera Baba Nanak, Partap Singh Bajwa MLA Kadia Majha Brigade etc. are absent from the meetings which makes Sidhu less likely to succeed. With the inclusion of Sidhu in the Congress party, he has disappointed the high command.
If Sidhu is not re-elected as president, political pandits believe that he could revolt against the Congress and lay the foundations of a new party. For Sidhu, it could be suicidal Can Sidhu's statement that he is a loser and not dead has many meanings.
The meaning of "waking up candles, the winds blowing here and there" also clarifies many things.
