CHANDIGARH: Punjab Government has removed Mayor of Mohali Amarjit Singh alias Jitti Sidhu from membership of Municipal Corporation. The orders of his removal were issued today under the signatures of Principal Secretary Local bodies department Vivek Partap Singh.
The orders dated December 28 have stated that the government is left with no alternative other than removing Amarjit Singh Sidhu from his office due to violation of section 63 of MC Act 1976. The Principal Secretary said that he was exercising his powers under section 36 of MC Act 1976 bestowed by the Governor of Punjab.
Principal Secretary had earlier given an opportunity of personal hearing to Amarjit Singh Sidhu. The state government had received a complaint against Sidhu for issueing tenders to a society of which he was member.
Jeeti Sidhu is brother of former minister Balbir Singh Sidhu who alongwith his brother had joined BJP.
