PHAGWARA: Kapurthala police today sent photos to all police stations in the country of the migrant labour who was lynched by irate mob on the charges of sacrilege incident in a religious place at village Nizampur on Kapurthala-Subhnapur road in order to establish his identity.
SSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh told that police first priority is to establish the identity of the victim within 72 hours for conducting post-mortem of body for his last rites.
He further told that a team of police officials are also contacting the police officials of other states on phone calls and also asked the health authorities to conduct the DNA test to establish his identity.
Khakh said police had also issued information sheet in the newspapers so that relatives and his heirs could come forward to claim his body for cremation.
SSP told that post mortem of the body would be conducted after lapse of 72 hours in case no claimant came forward and unclaimed body would be cremated by the municipal authorities.
Meanwhile body of the victim has been kept in the mortuary of the local civil hospital.
Local civil Hospital Senior Medical officer Dr Sandip Dhawan told that there are more than eight deep sharp cuts on the neck, hips and legs likely inflicted by swords besides blunt injuries and the exact number of injuries would be known after the post mortem.
Meanwhile SSP has deputed Kotwali SHO Prabhdeep Singh to investigate the case and asked him to also look into the viral videos on the social media.
SSP Harkamalpreet Singh also confirmed that no murder case has been registered in this case and only desecration case under section 295(A) has been registered on the complaint of the Granthi.
Meanwhile police released Granthi Amarjit Singh on Sunday night as he was detained by the police for questioning.
