CHANDIGARH: Senior BJP leader and presently working as Governor of Assam, Gulab Chand Kataria has been appointed new Governor of Punjab in place of Banwari Lal Purohit who had submitted his resignation few months back.
The President of India Druroupadi Murmu has accepted the resignation of Purohit who was locked in confrontation with Punjab CM over several issues. Purohit had recently started tour of border areas seemed running parallel government.
Gulab Chand Kataria belonged to Udaipur in Rajasthan and he remained minister in several governments before he was appointed Governor of Assam. Kataria will also be administrator of UT Chandigarh.
President Murmu has appointed six new Governor and shifted three. BJP leader Haribhau Bagde was appointed Governor of Rajasthan, Jishnu Dev Veram is appointed Governor of Telangana and former Union minister Santosh Gangwar would be Governor of Jharkhand. On Parkash Mathur is Governor of Sikkim, Ramen Deka is Governor of Chhatisgarh and CH Vijayshankar is appointed Governor of Meghalya while K Kailashnathan will be new Lt Governor of Punducherry.
Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishanan has been moved to Maharashtra, Lakshaman Prasad Acharya has been shifted from Sikkim to Assam. He has also been given additional charge of Manipur.
