AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Bibi Jagir Kaur appealed to the Prime Minister of India Mr Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Mr Subramaniam Jaishankar to ensure the safety of Sikhs living in Afghanistan and make unconditional arrangements for those Sikhs who want to come to India from Afghanistan.
At the same time Shiromani Committee President Bibi Jagir Kaur announced that the accommodation of Sikhs who would come to India would be arranged by the SGPC.
In a letter to the Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister, the SGPC President said that Sikhs were scared and feeling insecure in the current situation in Afghanistan.
She appealed to the Government of India to take immediate steps for the security of the Sikhs in Afghanistan and to make suitable arrangements for the Sikhs wishing to come to India.
SGPC Chief reminded the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister that once upon a time there were large numbers of Sikhs living in Afghanistan, but sadly today only 20 families are living there.
