NAWANSHAHR:Farmers under the banner of Kirti Kisan Union today strongly protested with black flags before Congress MP Munish Tewari from Shri Anandpur Sahib on his arrival here. On learning about Tewari's visit to Nawanshahr, the workers of Kirti Kisan Union marched towards the Civil Hospital carrying the party flags and black flags.
Tewari had come here to inaugurate the Oxygen plant at the Civil Hospital. The protesters were stopped by the police at the main road outside the hospital, where the police had put up barricades. The farmers tried their best to remove the barricades. But the police did not allow them to proceed. The farmers raised anti-Congress and anti-Modi government slogans for about an hour and a half. The farmers also chanted slogans against the constituency MLA Angad Singh. The farmers were led by Kirti Kisan Union district secretary Tarsem Singh Bains, Nawanshahr block president, Paramjit Singh Shahabpur, Gurbakhsh Kaur Sangha, Manjit Kaur, Buta Singh Mahmudpur, Rajkumar Mahal Khurd and Makhan Singh Bhanmajara, among others. The protesters said farmers have been sitting on the borders of Delhi for the last seven months demanding repeal of three agriculture laws, legal guarantee of MSP and more than 500 farmers have lost their lives in this struggle so far. But all political parties including the Congress, BJP, AAP and Shiromani Akali Dal are busy preparing for the 2022 assembly elections in Punjab. When the farmers did not clear the main road, Tewari and the halqa MLA got into their vehicles and drove towards Nawanshahr on the road from village Jethumjara. Meanwhile,
Manish Tewari, Member Lok Sabha from Anandpur Sahib, inaugurated the newly constructed oxygen plant at the Civil Hospital. Established in association with Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Tonsa, this oxygen plant has the capacity to produce up to 30 large-sized cylinders of oxygen per day. The plant will generate oxygen from the air and deliver it directly to patients' beds through pipes.
Manish Tewari later said that Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh was engaged in completing all the preparations in view of possible third wave of Covid. He said that under this such oxygen plants were being set up all over the state so that there would be no shortage of oxygen in case of any emergency. He said that under Mission Fateh, the Punjab government had taken timely steps to save the people from the epidemic of Covid-19 and to provide better treatment facilities to the affected patients. He said that during the second wave of Covid when there was a severe shortage of oxygen in the country, no shortage of oxygen was allowed in Punjab. In addition to the provision of essential medicines and L-3 beds, timely recruitment of doctors and other health personnel also provided better health services to the people, he said.
He said that with the setting up of Oxygen Plant, the Civil Hospital of Nawanshahr has now become self reliant in the field of oxygen whereas earlier it had to import oxygen from outside. He lauded the efforts made by the district administration to effectively cope with the second wave of Covid pandemic and to meet the oxygen requirement during this time. He also lauded the role played by the doctors and other health personnel of the district in saving the lives of the people by becoming front line warriors during the Covid.
