CHANDIGARH: Born on 1st May 1958 (Labour Day) in a farmer’s family. Pursued primary education in village school, then shifted to Chandigarh in 1975 and took further education in Government College Sector-11, Chandigarh thereafter pursued law from Panjab University. During early College days remained a sociopolitical student having held posts of President Students Union of Government College Sector 11, Chandigarh in 1978-79 and then President Student Council of Panjab University Chandigarh in the year 1981-82. Thereafter remained an elected member of the Senate and Syndicate for a continuous period from 1990 onwards (12 years) and also served as Dean Faculty of Law in 2003-04.
Entered legal profession in 1985, later in 1993 joined as Deputy Advocate General, Punjab till 2005, then as Additional Advocate General (Punjab & Haryana) handling various pivotal state matters. Designated as a Senior Advocate in the year 2007 and later appointed as the Assistant Solicitor General of India in the year 2008 till 2014. Also remained as a Special Public Prosecutor for CBI in the Punjab and Haryana High Court during this tenure. Also got elected as a Member of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana for consecutive five terms from 1997 onwards, whereof remained as the Chairman of the apex regulating body of lawyers in the year 2001-02. Whilst practicing in the High Court, remained the President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association for eight times (being the first to have elected these many times in any High Court in the country), lastly in 2018-19.
Having handled extremely sensitive government and private matters in constitutional, criminal, civil, service and land matters before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh.
