CHANDIGARH: Five persons were killed when a fast driven Fortuner SUV plunged into the canal after hitting protection wall near village Jageda (Dehlon) in Ludhiana district.
A Canada based NRI Jatinder Singh is among the five persons drowned in the Canal. He is a truck driver and survived by wife and two children. He had came to India four days back to meet his friends.
The accident occured around minight on Monday. A passerby saw the SUV falling into canal and informed the police. The dead bodies were fished out after two hours.
The deceased have been identified as Kuldip Singh(45), Jagdeep Singh(35), Jitender Singh(40, Jagtar Singh(45) and Bhajan Singh(42). One of the occupants Sandeep Singh Sunny jumped out of car and survived with serious injuries. They all belonged to village Nangal near Dehlon.
This is second incident in a week when a car fell into canal. Seven people, all hailing from Rajasthan had drowned in Canal near Ropar.
