Asks why Kejriwal’s PA Bibhav Kumar was given Z plus security
CHANDIGARH: Former minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today made it clear that his entire security cover had been withdrawn on Saturday and that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s statement that a few personnel were still posted with him was an about turn when cornered by political parties and Punjabis alike.
Speaking out against the hypocritical statement of AAP Punjab President Aman Arora that he did not require so much security, Mr Bikram Majithia said “did it take the AAP government three years to reach this conclusion?”
He said Arora had also questioned why a PM level security was given to a drug accused but conveniently forgot that he was socializing with me a few days back and commenting that the entire party wanted to see the back of Bhagwant Mann”.
Majithia also asked Aman Arora to tell why Z plus security cover had been given to Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant Bibhav Kumar especially when the latter was charged with molesting a party MP. He said similarly security covers had been extended to Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia who were residents of Delhi and had even been jailed in the multi crore liquor scam corruption case. “Even Vijay Nair, who is accused of moral turpitude besides corruption has been given security cover. Aman Arora should explain why this is so since he has taken on the responsibility of espousing who is deserving of security and who is not?”
Asserting that security was not a status symbol and should be given on merit only, Mr Majithia said “I only want a written explanation from the government that I do not need any security”.
He said he was demanding this because only one month back a senior IPS officer had visited his residence in Amritsar and suggested installation of more CCTV cameras, increasing the height of the boundary wall and installation of barbed wire fencing and net above it to protect against hurling of any bomb/ grenade into the compound. I was also asked to go for bullet proofing of my vehicle for which record of the vehicle was taken. I fail to understand how after a few days my threat perception turned from very high to zero. I think my statements; particularly the narration of an incident which occurred in Hoshiarpur at night following which the chief minister donned black sun glasses was responsible for the arbitrary withdrawal of my security cover”.
Majithia also disclosed how the guard had been removed from his residence in Amritsar besides detailing how AIG Manbir Singh refused to meet his security incharge Charanjit Singh since the last two days. “All this indicates that the decision to withdraw my security is a political decision”.
The SAD leader also thanked political leaders who showed solidarity with him on the occasion including Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Sunil Jakhar, Arvind Khanna and Vineet Joshi besides others.
