Bhagwant Mann pursuing political vendetta by appointing one SIT after another to probe allegations against me: Bikram Majithia

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | January 16, 2024 06:56 PM

PATIALA: Former minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today said chief minister Bhagwant Mann was pursuing political vendetta against him by appointing one SIT after another to probe allegations which had been cast aside by the courts even as he asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government would have to file another false case against him to put him behind bars.

Talking to newsmen while proceeding to answer the summons of the fifth SIT constituted to probe the drug allegations against him, Mr Bikram Majithia said “it is a matter of record that the erstwhile Congress government registered a false case against me by bringing in a police officer as DGP for fifteen days”. He said following the registration of the false case, the High Court had passed a detailed order asserting that the allegations were not made out while granting him bail in the case. “Earlier the concerned court has already concluded the trial related to which allegations against me are being probed”.

Asserting that it was clear that the AAP government was not ready to listen to anyone, Mr Majithia said “Bhagwant Mann is following a single agenda – to implicate me in a drugs case by hook or by crook”. He said immense pressure was being put on police officers and repeated SITs had been formed to “procure” the desired results. He said now more and more junior officers were being added in the SITs with the latest SIT having a SP who was the ears and eyes of the chief minister.

SIT questions Majithia for 7 hours

Bikram Majithia booked in a drug case today appeared before the SIT at Patiala. SIT led by DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar questioned Majithia about his links with drug mafia. Majithia said that Bhagwant Mann should become the SIT head.

Stating that he was continuing to cooperate with the repeated SITs and was appearing regularly whenever summoned unlike AAP Convener Arvind Kejriwal who was using Bhagwant Mann to evade appearance before the Enforcement Directorate, Mr Majithia said “such tactics cannot intimidate me. I will keep raising the issues of Punjab and haul up the chief minister for his wrong doings”.

Replying to a media query, Mr Majithia said “now Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has become a ‘muffler man’ after the alliance of his party with that of AAP. Both parties are contesting the Mayoral elections in Chandigarh as one and have firmed up an alliance in Punjab also. This has robbed the Congress of being called the opposition party in Punjab and Punjabis are waiting to see what washing machine AAP will use to give a clean chit to Congressmen facing corruption charges”.

The Akali leader also asserted that minister Aman Arora should not be allowed to unfurl the national flag on Republic Day, adding “he should be disqualified immediately as a legislator after being convicted in a case of physical assault”.
