Bajwa slams Mann for leaving Punjab in the lurch to witness a cricket match in Australia

CHANDIGARH: The Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa, on Wednesday, lashed out at Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant for leaving Punjab in lurch to witness the Cricket Match in Australia.

Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said CM Mann, along with his wife and some senior bureaucrats, is all set to be at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Boxing Day (26 December 2024) to witness the 4th Test between Australia and India for the Border-Gavaskar Series. Even though, he hasn't addressed some of the most critical issues in the state.

"The state has been going through a very crucial phase now. The border districts have been shaken by the blasts, exposing the poorest law and order situation. One of the senior-most farm union leaders, Jagjit Singh Dallewal, is on a deathbed, and his fast unto death has entered its 30th day. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government has conspired to dismantle the Mandi System in Punjab and bring back some clauses of three anti-farmer laws via the National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing. In such circumstances, how can Punjab CM even think of enjoying the cricket match in Australia, " Bajwa asked.

Qadian Legislator Bajwa said that to give an apt reaction to the Union government and to analyse the adverse impact of the National Policy Framework on Agricultural Marketing on the Punjabi farmers, the Aam Aadmi Party government should have called an all-party meeting immediately. Similarly, the Winter Session of the Punjab Assembly should have been held in December 2024 instead of deferring it to January 2025. He has not even conducted cabinet meetings for the past several months.

"The fiscal health of the state has been in the state of limbo. The Mann government has failed miserably to revive the economy", Bajwa added.

Bajwa said that two religious communities in Punjab have been observing the days that are most significant to them, yet the CM has left for Australia to witness a cricket match.
