Repeated power outrage in Rajindra hospital Patiala severely hit the health services: Mohit Mohindra

PATIALA:  Punjab Youth Congress president Mohit Mohindra today questioned the state health minister Dr.Balbir Singh over repeated power outrage at Rajindra Hospital and Medical college here, causing interruption in operations and emergency health services.

In a statement issued here Mohindra said that health services in Rajindra Hospital Patiala and other government run hospitals in the state were crumbling and power cuts put the risks of patients at risk. He said that a video of power failure during operation of a patient at Rajindra Hospital went viral and exposed the lies of health minister. He said that this was not the first time that power tripped in the prestigious hospital. Earlier too Youth Congress had held dharna in the hospital to raise issue of power cuts apathy of health minister.

Mohindra said that similar incident of power cut of over one hour was yesterday reported from a government hospital in Amritsar. He said that Dr.Balbir Singh had made false statements that hot line for uninterrupted power supply had been provided at Rajindra Hospital and other medical colleges in the state. He said that besides power cuts, the Rajindra hospital and civil hospitals lacked sanitation services. He said that huge vacancies of specialist doctors and para-medical staff in the medical colleges and hospitals had crippled the health services. Patients are forced to get costly treatment in private hospitals, he added.

Mohindra also warned the health minister against taking punitive action against the resident doctor who highlighted the issue of power cut. He asked the health minister to take immeidate steps to improve heath services.
