CHANDIGARH: While speaking in the zero-hour of the monsoon session of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday, the Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa, sought a committee of the Punjab Assembly similar to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to investigate the involvement of police officers in the jail interview of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.

Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that such a committee could also probe the cases of gross misconduct committed by police officials in the state.

"Special DGP Prabodh Kumar, who headed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to inquire about the jail interview of Bishnoi, around a month back, submitted a report in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a sealed envelope. He concluded that one of the interviews with the gangster took place in the CIA police station in Kharar. An SP-level police officer provided his mobile phone for the interview. Now, Prabodh Kumar should be appointed to probe the matter further so that the erring police officers could face the court of law", Bajwa added.

While addressing the Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Bajwa said, "You sought a report from the state police chief on a case in which an assistant sub-inspector allegedly received money from a gangster. However, the issue of the jail interview of a dreaded gangster is graver than the matter of ASI."

The opposition leader accused the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, who also holds the Home Portfolio of being ineffective in fixing the responsibility for the jail interview of dreaded gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. CM didn't even shy away from lying on the issue.

"In the given circumstances, can the parents of the slain Punjabi rapper and singer, Shubhdeep Singh also known as Sidhu Moosewala expect justice?" Bajwa asked.
