AMRITSAR: A delegation led by Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur today met the Commissioner of Police, Amritsar regarding the case of forcible removal of Guru Granth Sahib Ji from the house of a Sikh family in Ranjit Avenue area by members of the so-called Satkar Committee and submitted a memorandum of demand to the officer.
Speaking on the occasion, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur said that on June 2, 15-20 members of the so-called Satkar Committee forcibly entered the house of a Sikh family in Ranjit Avenue area of Amritsar and took away the holy saroop of Guru Granth Sahib Ji with them. Bibi Kiranjot Kaur said, “The holy saroop of Guru Granth Sahib was not delivered to Sri Akal Takht Sahib or Gurdwara Ramsar Sahib.
An inquiry was conducted on the basis of a complaint received by the SGPC, in which it has been revealed that the family is Gursikh and were taking care of Guru Granth Sahib Ji as per the maryada (conduct).”
Bibi Kiranjot Kaur said that when Tejbir Singh, the leader of the so-called Satkar Committee was questioned he replied that he had entered the house with the consent of Robin Hans, who is Ranjit Avenue police station house officer (SHO). Bibi Kiranjot Kaur said that the SGPC had written a letter to the Commissioner of Police to take action against Tejbir Singh, his associates and accused police personnel. SGPC member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur objected to the Commissioner of Police that instead of taking action against the so-called Satkar Committee, various police personnel kept teaching her the lesson of Sikh Rehat Maryada (Sikh code of conduct). Bibi Kiranjot Kaur demanded to stop the removal of Guru Granth Sahib from the homes of Sikhs by the so-called Satkar Committee allegedly in connivance with the police and that the police should immediately stop interfering in the religious matters. She said that the missing saroop should be returned to the family and legal action be taken against the culprits. On the occasion of handing over the memorandum to the Commissioner of Police, the delegation included SGPC member Bibi Kiranjot Kaur, Pritpal Singh, Narinder Singh, Palwinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Parupkar Singh, Gurbakhsh Singh Bedi, Surinder Singh Kitabanwale, Harsharan Singh, Narinderpal Singh and Bibi Arshdeep Kaur.
