VINOD GUPTA | April 13, 2025 04:06 PM

CHANDIGARH: Power employees to start an indefinite work boycott from May 29 to protest against the proposed privatisation of Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal power distribution corporations. The Uttar Pradesh Vidyut Karmachari Sanyukt Sangharsh Samiti has opposed remarks by the chief secretary in support of power sector privatisation, that privatisation should proceed “without fear or pause” and “without yielding to pressure.”

Shailendra Dubey, the Samiti’s convenor alleged that instead of holding consultations, officials are attempting to pressure employees into silence. He also challenged the state’s presentation of Odisha and Greater Noida as examples of successful power reforms. The government has not initiated dialogue with any section of employees . who have been struggling for the last four and half months. The Odisha experience is being wrongly projected as a success.

V K Gupta informed that NCCOEEE has supported the action plan of further agitation by UP electricity employees. The movement will begin with a public awareness campaign from April 16 to 30. This will be followed by a state-wide bike rally on May 1 (Labour Day), a relay hunger strike from May 2 to 9 at Shakti Bhawan in Lucknow, and a “work-to-rule” protest from May 14 to 19. A major demonstration is planned on May 20, followed by a daily three-hour work boycott from May 21 to 28, ” convenor Shailendra Dubey said.

Northern region NCCOEEE constituents except UP will massively demonstrate all across the region on 14th May 2025 at lunch hour in support of the struggling UP employees. NCCOEEE again urges the UP Govt. to immediately halt the privatisation process and begin discussion with the struggling employees. Any vindictive attack upon the UP power employees will be strongly responded to all across the country by the 27 lakh power men.
