PHAGWARA: In a significant step towards eradicating the drug menace, The District Kapurthala Police destroyed a large quantity of seized narcotics as part of their ongoing anti-drug campaign.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala, Gaurav Tura, stated that the District-Level Drug Disposal Committee supervised the disposal of narcotics seized in 28 cases registered across 12 police stations in the district. The process was closely monitored by SSP Tura himself, who reaffirmed the Punjab government’s commitment under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav to intensify efforts against drug abuse.
The seized contraband included poppy husk, heroin, intoxicants, and cannabis, all of which were destroyed after being collected from the Centralized Malkhana and Judicial Malkhana. The disposal process was carried out under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Key members of the district-level committee, including Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sarabjit Rai and Deputy Superintendent of Police Narcotics Sukhpal Singh, oversaw the operation, ensuring compliance with all legal protocols.
Reiterating the district police’s commitment to a “zero-tolerance” policy towards drugs, SSP Tura emphasized the ongoing mission to root out drug-related crimes and safeguard the community from this social evil.
