PHAGWARA: A woman was allegedly assaulted with a sharp weapon in Majara Nau-Abad village under Sadar Banga police station limits, following a dispute over an anti-drug awareness poster displayed near the accused’s residence.
Station House Officer Banga(Sadar) Abhishek Kumar told here this evening that, Praveen Kaur, a resident of Majara Nau-Abad, reported that she and her daughter Amandeep Kaur were at home on the evening of April 11 when they were called outside by a local man identified as Pradeep alias Deepa, son of Gurmeet Lal alias Meet.
The complaint states that Pradeep, allegedly holding a kirpan (a traditional sword), was accompanied by a woman named Mamta, a resident of Gunachaur. They reportedly confronted Praveen about the installation of anti-drug posters near their home. When Praveen tried to explain, the situation escalated, and she was allegedly verbally abused and slapped multiple times by Pradeep.
The situation turned violent when Praveen attempted to retreat. Pradeep is accused of striking her on the back of the head with the kirpan, reportedly with the intent to cause serious harm. Amandeep arranged transportation to take her mother to Civil Hospital Banga, where medical staff documented the injuries.
Acting on the medical and eyewitness reports, police registered a case under Sections 109, 115(2), 118(1), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). and arrested both accused Mamta and Pardeep.
