PHAGWARA: Three members of a family were killed on the spot while two other sustained serious injuries when a motorcycle-driven cart met head-on-collision with a private bus near village Jagjitpur on Phagwara—Hoshiarpur road on Saturday morning.
The poor visibility caused by thick fog was said to be the cause of accident.
According to police sources, a family of five was traveling on the motorcycle cart to Hoshiarpur when the bus hit them.
Three of the passengers, including a child, died on the spot, while two others sustained critical injuries.
The deceased were identified as Gareeb Dass(30), his mother Phoollwati (45)and his one year old son Manpreet Singh. All residents of Hoshiarpur.
Smt Rajni wife of Garib Dass and Gurpreet Kaur daughter of Garib Dass sustained critical injuries and have been admitted to the Civil Hospital in Phagwara, but were sent to Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital.Rampal, a relative of the victims, stated that the family was returning from visiting their relatives when the accident took place. “The bus appeared suddenly due to poor visibility, and the collision was unavoidable, ” he said.The SHO of Ravidass Police Station, along with his team, rushed to the scene upon receiving the information and has initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that dense fog and limited visibility were significant contributing factors.
