PHAGWARA: In a significant breakthrough under the ongoing crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, police in Kapurthala have arrested three individuals for possessing illegal firearms and ammunition, averting a potential attack motivated by old enmity.
The arrests were made following an operation led by the CIA staff of Kapurthala under the supervision of Sarabjit Rai, SP (Investigation), and Parminder Singh, DSP (Detective).
Senior Superintendent of the Police Gaurav Toora said the suspects identified as Princepal Singh resident of Village Thana, Kartarpur, Gurwinder Singh alias Garry resident of Bishrampur, Kartarpur, District Jalandhar and Jatin Kumar resident of Village Khusropur, Kartarpur, District Jalandhar were apprehended with two country-made pistols, one toy pistol, and six live cartridges. An FIR (No. 23) under Section 25 of the Arms Act was registered at the Sadar Kapurthala police station.
SSP Toora said, the investigation revealed that Gurwinder Singh, one of the arrested individuals, had been planning to attack his relative’s house due to a long-standing personal feud. The involvement of a Dubai-based associate, Ninder, who allegedly orchestrated the plot, indicates a broader international link in the illegal arms network.
The police action has successfully thwarted what could have been a violent confrontation, underscoring the importance of timely intelligence and coordinated law enforcement efforts.
SSP said that further investigations are underway to uncover more details about the smuggling operation and the role of other individuals involved.
