PHAGWARA: In a shocking incident, a 24-year-old boy has been arrested along with three accomplices for allegedly conspiring to murder his father over a property dispute in Kapurthala. The crime, executed on the night of December 1, was solved by the district police under the leadership of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora, IPS today.
The Accused were identified as Karan Kumar (24) Son of the deceased resident of Amrik Nagar, Bhulana, Tarsem Lal @ Billa (24) - resident of Sardulla Pur, Kabirpur, Mangat Ram alias Goli (29) resident of Mohalla Ucha Dhaora, Kapurthala.and Harjinder Singh alias Jinder (24) resident of Busowal, Kabirpur.
Harjinder Singh also has a prior case registered against him under FIR No. 46, dated October 16.
Addressing press conference at Kapurthala Senior Superintendent of the Police Gaurav Toora said that the accused Karan Kumar, hired three associates to kill his father, Suraj Kumar (45), fearing eviction from the family property. Karan reportedly paid ₹4 lakh to the accused for the crime.
SSP Toora told journalists in the presence of SP Sarabjit Rai that Suraj Kumar, who worked at a private clubhouse, left for work around 4:30 PM on December 1.
Suraj had suffered a fatal head injury inflicted with a sharp weapon.
Despite being rushed to the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala, doctors declared him brought dead.
A case was initially registered against unknown persons under FIR No. 177 at Sadar Police Station, Kapurthala but during the investigation, police uncovered Karan’s involvement.
SSP Toora revealed that Karan colluded with three men—Tarsem Lal alias Billa, Mangat Ram alias Goli, and Harjinder Singh alias Jinder—to commit the crime. The accused, all in their 20s, are residents of Kapurthala district.
SP Rai, stated that the motive was rooted in Karan’s fear of being deprived of his family home. Weapons used in the crime, including two sharp knives, have been recovered, along with a motorcycle n PB-09AM-6813used for the crime.
