CHANDIGARH: Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector 36- B, Chandigarh in association with Department of Environment, Federation of Sector Welfare Association of Chandigarh( FOSWAC) and Yuvsatta Youth for Peace (NGO) organised one-day seminar on ‘Swacch Chandigarh- Green Chandigarh and Ms. Green Chandigarh Campaign.on November 30.
It was organized under the guidance of Shriman Nirmal Singh Dhillon, Chairman and Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon, Principal Dev Samaj College of Education, Sector- 36 B, Chandigarh. The chief guest of the seminar was Sh. Debendra Dalai, IFS, CCF cum director, Department of Environment, Chandigarh Administration.
The chief guest highlighted the need for such seminars and workshops which impart practical knowledge to not only the learners but also the general public. He also mentioned that there is a need of more efforts to maintain the greenery and cleanliness of Chandigarh city.
The main dignitary was Padam Shree Awardee, Mr. Agus Indra Udyana, Chairperson, Ashram Gandhi Puri, Bali, Indonesia. He mentioned in his address that they have a tradition of taking care of trees by the students of even schools, colleges and universities.
He also highlighted the need for village adoption so that they can learn the value of nurturing nature. The resource persons include Mr. Baljinder Singh, Mr. Parmod Sharma, Mr. Bhupinder Singh and Ms. Samidha Bansal. Mr. Baljinder Singh suggested that community participation is imperative for the promotion of an eco-friendly environment.
Mr Parmod Sharma highlighted the need for awareness seminars related with environment. Ms. Samidha Bansal, founder, Green Karma in her address mentioned the manner in which people can treat dry and wet waste along with the idea of segregating waste for decomposition. The faculty member of college Professor Charanjit Kaur acquainted the students with the concept of circular economy and its practicability in day to day life.
Mr. Bhupinder Singh in his presentation described the solar energy and installation through two models of Capex and RESCO Model. The aim of the seminar was to spread awareness among learners to save and nurture the environment by following some eco- friendly practices.
