CHANDIGARH: Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatraya on Monday lauded the Indian Army and veterans for their exemplary service to the nation, stating that our Army stands as the backbone of the country, safeguarding its sovereignty and integrity with unwavering dedication. “Beyond their role in defense, the armed forces play a crucial part in nation-building by maintaining internal security, aiding in disaster relief, and contributing to infrastructure development in remote areas, ” said Shri Dattatraya during an interactive session with veterans and Veer Naari at Raj Bhavan today.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) and his wife Smt Neelam Mishra were also present on the occasion.
Shri Dattatraya said that veterans, who have served with valour and commitment, continue to contribute to society through leadership in various sectors, mentoring youth, and supporting welfare initiatives. “Their sacrifices and resilience inspire generations, embodying the spirit of patriotism and selfless service that strengthens the fabric of the nation, ” he said, adding that the feeling of nationalism among our armed forces is so inspiring.
Praising Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Governor Shri Dattatraya said that under his leadership, India’s defence sector is fast becoming self-reliant. He also praised Prime Minister Modi for making One Rank, One Pension (OROP) a reality. The Governor also highlighted the benefits of Agniveer Yojana of the Central Government.
Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), also appreciated Prime Minister Narendra Modi for honouring his commitment to implement the OROP scheme, which has proved to be a boon for the veterans. Sharing his experiences as a serving Army officer, L-G Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra said: “We never thought of ourselves but of the nation and the tricolour. We gave our best against all odds and challenges.”
The Lieutenant-Governor stressed the need for giving back to society as well. “You have fought wars. You are brave. Let us do something to our fellow citizens. It takes only a little effort to give back to society, for which we just need to look for circumstances, ” he said in his address to the veterans.
Among veterans and Veer Naari who shared their experiences on the occasion included Smt Kamaljeet Kaur Shekhon, Colonel Om Kakkar, and Brigadier Dilbagh Singh. Senior officers present on the occasion included Shri Atul Dwivedi, Secretary to Haryana Governor, Squadron Leader Mohan Krishna P, ADC to Haryana Governor; Liaison Officer, L-G Ladakh, Lt Col BK Dash, and ADC to L-G Ladakh, Shri Abbas.
