Students motivated to do social service

September 04, 2024 03:10 PM

MOHALI: Rayat Bahra University here today organised a talk on ‘A Social Walk Through’. Dr Rajinder Singh Sohal, Assistant Inspector General of Police (Retired), and Sandeep Maun, Senior Inspector, were the keynote speakers.

Dr Sohal said students have some responsibilities towards society and the nation. They must contribute towards that in every way they can. Social service is one way for students to contribute to their society. Being humans, it is our responsibility to help each other in need.

He said students can do social service on their own and contribute to society as an individual. They can educate the people and society about the alarming situations which are creating hurdles for human life. Some of these issues are environmental pollution, poverty, deforestation, increasing air pollution in cities, lack of access to education, water scarcity, the COVID-19 pandemic and many more.

Sandeep Maun in his address said through social services, students get the opportunity to know the problems faced by poor and needy people. This may develop a zeal to solve such problems, and thus it develops the ability of problem-solving and leadership skills. This quality will help them to become the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.

By doing social service, students will also earn the goodwill of the poor and the needy and learn to think more inclusively in the future – something that would be very vital in their character formation.

Avinash Rai Khanna, Vice-Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society and former MP, lauded the initiative of management of Rayat Bahra University, in organising such events which were of immense importance for the students and helped them improve their personality.

Chancellor Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Rayat Bahra University, expressed optimism that the talks by the duo would prove to be helpful to the faculty and the students.

Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, extended a warm welcome to the guests on their arrival.
