MOHALI: University School of Allied Health Sciences (USAHS) of Rayat Bahra University organised National Eye Donation Awareness Week 2024. The Week is usually aligned with the National Eye Donation Fortnight in India. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the importance of eye donation and encourage people to pledge their eyes to help those suffering from corneal blindness.
The event was marked by various awareness activities such as public talks addressed by Dr Pankaj Kaul, Dean, USAHS. Dr Kaul said according to latest data as of 2023, around 740 members were registered under the Eye Bank Association of India. A rally was taken out by students of Optometry and Biomedical Lab. Sciences, and pamphlets were distributed for eye donation pledge.
Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor, lauded the initiative of USAHS in organising the program.
Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, RBU, Mohali and Prof Satish Bansal, Dean, Academic Affairs, were also present on the occasion. They appreciated the efforts put in by the Optometry department for this noble cause.
