MOHALI: Central Library Rayat Bahra University which has always been a promoter of recycling and sustainable living, organised an exhibition of decorative items prepared out of e-waste. This year the theme for Christmas decoration was “Giving E-Waste A Second Life”.
The Central Library staff used waste electronic material such as CDs and DVDs and many plastic components such as bottles; bottle caps, plastic packing material and plastic lids to create beautiful items for decoration.
The poster launch was done by Vice- Chancellor Dr. Parvinder Singh. Dr. Satish Bansal (Dean Academics) and Registrar Dr. Dinesh Sharma.
Dr. Parvinder Singh applauded the efforts and appreciated the initiative taken by the Central Library staff in promoting the idea. All the Deans, Principals, many HODs along with faculty and students visited and appreciated the exhibits.
Students from different Schools of the University visited the exhibition.
The Central Library demonstrated various techniques and showcased many ideas for the students illustrating that it is a simple yet effective technique.
Chief Librarian Sakshi Bahl interacted with the students and shared with them the issue of increasing e-waste. She gave a powerpoint presentation showcasing some world renowned artists and their marvellous work using e-waste.
The students were shown photographs of some very famous E- waste installations.
Sakshi Bahl called upon the students that instead of tossing old CDs and DVDs into trash these can be turned into beautiful decorations.
