700 Students Get Degrees at 68th Annual Convocation of Khalsa College of Education

AMRITSAR: At least 700 students were awarded degrees during 68th Annual Convocation of the historic Khalsa College of Education (KCE) here today. Chief guest at the function Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, Pro-Chancellor of Khalsa University (KU) and Honourary Secretary, Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) asked the students to prepare for future challenges as the competition of seeking suitable jobs is becoming global.

Chhina, who said the primary aim of education is to inculcate confidence, discipline and awareness, said the students must take up liberal values and humanity as their primary focus in life. He also stressed that those who have got degrees are our ‘future teachers’ and only these `nation builders' can empower our society and community through their valuable contributions.

He also advocated the adoption of modern methods and aids for imparting value-based education which is the main duty of the teachers. He congratulated the students for their achievements of getting degrees and coaxed them to live up to the expectations of the society and their parents.

KU Vice Chancellor Dr. Mehal Singh who was guest of honour also emphasized on the changing scenario of education and how the new education policy is making the instructions of the education more teacher and students’ centric. “All parameters of instructions are changing. The role of teacher is becoming more challenging”, said Dr.Mehal Singh.

KU Dean Dr. Khushwinder Kumar read out the College progress report highlighting the academic, extra-curricular and sports achievements. The University toppers and meritorious students were awarded honours and accolades. Vote of thanks was proposed by Dr.Nirmaljit Kaur Sandhi. KCGC office bearers KU Dean Dr. Surinder Kaur, Dean Dr. Kanwaljit Singh, Rajbir Singh, Paramjit Singh Bal, Santokh Singh Sethi, Lakhwinder Singh Dhillon, Gurpreet Singh, members and Principals of various Khalsa sister institutions were present.
