Two prisoners escaped from Phagwara sub-jail in Punjab

PHAGWARA: Two inmates of Phagwara Sub Jail managed to escape from jail at around 7AM on Thursday. Superintendent of the Police Phagwara Parminder Singh Bhandhal rushed to the spot to enquire the matter.

The inmates identified as Amandeep Kumar of Bhabhiana and   Rajwinder Kumar of Village Samrai mixed chilly in morning tea threw upon the Sentry Harpal Singh and Constable Mangat Singh and escaped when Harpal was opening the door of the jail to give entry to ASI Kabul Singh.

Another inmate Pawan Kumar who also attempted to escape was overpowered by the Sentry Harpal Singh who sustained minor bruises during scugffle with inmate. Amandeep was in jail in a case under section 324IPC since November 24 while Rajwinder under section 308IPC since November 28.Unfortunately though CCTVs were installed in and around the sub jail but all CCTVs were lying out of work due to technical snag for the last more than two months. It was also learnt that the escaped accused also attempted to demolish wall of the bath room to escape,but could not be succeeded.

Meanwhile Additional Director General of Police(Jails) Iqbal Singh Sahota appointed Ludhiana Jail Superintendent S.P. Krishna who rushed to Phagwara to investigate the matter and sought detailed report from Deputy Superintendent Jail Gurpreet Singh who told that total 13 inmates are lodged in Phagwara Sub Jail presently. Later talking to newsmen SP Krishna said he will complete his investigation in two days and will submit the detailed report to ADGP(Jails).He said Negligency or dereliction  in the duties could not be tolerated at any cost.
