Youth Congress workers gherao Police Station in Ferozepur in protest against firing on former MLA Kulbir Singh Zira

'Gunda Raj' in Punjab, a serious threat to peace in the border state, says PYC president Mohit Mohindra

FEROZEPUR:  Punjab Youth Congress workers led by state president Mohit Mohindra today gheraoed the Police Station in Ferozepur and held dharna in protest against firing on former Congress MLA Kulbir Singh Zira on Thursday last.

Mohit Mohindra accompanied by Kulbir Singh Zira and hundreds of Youth Congress volunteers walked to the Kulgarhi Police Station with a lock in his hand and threatened to lock the Police Station if police failed to take immediate action against the miscreants who attacked Zira. He alleged that an attempt was made to assassinate the former MLA. Police later conceded the demand to form a SIT to probe the incident.

Mohindra said that 'Gunda Raj' was prevailing in Punjab and deteriorating law and order is serious threat to peace in the border state. He said that Police was not able to perform its duty due to political pressure on it. He remined that it was the same police which fought against terrorism and restored peace. He said that gangsters were roaming around without any fear.

PYC president said that if anything happened to Zira, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann would be responsible. He said that police agreed to form the SIT only after Congress workers laid seize of police station. He sought a time bound investigation, otherwise they would hold dharma outside office of Punjab DGP.

Mohindra also flayed the AAP government for sheltering drug smugglers. He said that Youth of Punjab wanted jobs, but they are getting drugs. He said that Punjab Youth Congress would continue to protest drug menace in the state. He said that AAP was making false claims of giving employment to youth. The youth is forced to go abroad to look for employment opportunities.
