AMRITSAR: Dharm Prachar Committee Punjab of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee celebrated the birthday of Sher- A-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji as a prayer day at the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh ji at Company Bagh here today.
On this occasion, a prayer was offered to Guru Sahib Ji to grant strength to the Sikh community and all the Punjabis to follow in the footsteps of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a great king, warrior and far-sighted administrator who, by gathering various misals, established a vast Sikh state extending to Punjab, Dara Khyber, Afghanistan and made Lahore the capital of the Sikh state. This was expressed by Manjit Singh Bhoman, Chairman Dharma Prachar Committee, Delhi, while offering flowers of devotion on the birth anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Bhoma said that his rule was secular in which people from Sikh, Hindu and Muslim communities were posted in high positions without any discrimination.
He compared today's situation with the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh and said that in today's computer age, fanatical rulers have come but the Sikh emperor gave a secular direction to his government, the praises of which have been penned by foreign historians. Chairman Manjit Singh Bhoma also said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh, as a devout Sikh, gave gold and property to Sachkhand Harimandar Sahib and other Gurdhams as well as to Hindus and Muslim religious places. And he appeared to Akal Takht Sahib as a humble Sikh.
The Jathedar Akali Phula Singh of that time sentenced him to flogging which he accepted.
