PATIALA: The Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government has not made any meaningful scheme for the welfare of Scheduled Caste families, which constitute more than one-third of Punjab's population.

State Vice President of Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Caste Morcha, Paramjit Singh Kainth has expressed concern that the Punjab government does not have any meaningful scheme for the welfare of Scheduled Caste families in the funds kept for health, education, employment, industry as well as development of rural and urban areas.

Kainth further said that Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema, while presenting the budget in the Punjab Assembly, has reserved Rs 13, 937 crore for the development of Dalit sections in the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan in the financial year 2026-26. But the analysis and details of the amount spent during the last three years should be made available.

He also said that the Aam Aadmi Party government is only trying to implement the attractive welfare schemes of the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Center in Punjab, while failing to take steps to fulfill its election promises.
