AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee will write a letter to union government demanding reconstruction of the Gurdwara Sahib belonging to Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji located in Baghdad, Iraq.
This was expressed by the General Secretary of Shiromani Committee, Gurcharan Singh Grewal here today.
Grewal said that in the past, the president of the SGPC called "Mission Baba Nanak Baghdad". Harjit Singh Sodhi and Guru Sahib's devotee Suraj Saheed Bhawal had come to Amritsar and expressed their desire to the Shiromani Committee that the service of the Gurdwara Sahib of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji located in Baghdad should be conducted by the Shiromani Committee. Therefore, necessary correspondence should be made with the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India.
Grewal said that according to historical references, Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji went to Baghdad during his uDaasi , where this Gurdwara Sahib was located in his memory.
In the past, due to the deterioration of the situation in Iraq and during the war, the building of the Gurdwara Sahib was also damaged.
He said that regarding the necessary service of this Gurdwara Sahib, after discussing with the President of Shiromani Committee, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, a letter will be entered into with the Government of India.
Grewal said that the Shiromani Committee respects the desire expressed by the representatives of the Mission Baba Nanak organization for the service of the Gurdwara Sahib located in the memory of Guru Sahib, but will take a suitable decision for the Sikh organization and take the action forward.
