SGPC sacked Sikh high priest Giani Harpreet Singh, he was among five high priests who indicted Sukhbir Badal

AMRITSAR: The meeting of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) held today accepted the report of the inquiry committee formed in connection with the Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh, and dismissed him from his services.

Giani Harpreet Singh was one of the five high priests who signed an edict declaring SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal a Tankhahiya (guilty of religious misconduct). Giani Harpreet Singh said that he was expecting this decision after December 2. It is the date whan Akal Takht ordered Sukhbir Badal to perform religious punishment.

Giving information about the decision, SGPC Secretary Pratap Singh said that this decision has been taken unanimously on the report of the inquiry committee. Only three members registered their dissenting notes in this regard, while the remaining members of the Inquiry Committee present agreed to dismiss Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on the basis of the report of the inquiry committee.

He said that the Inquiry Committee has taken this action as the allegations against Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh were proved in the investigation and the honour and dignity of Takht Sahib was hurt.

Partap Singh said that the Interim Committee has assigned Giani Jagtar Singh, Head Granthi of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib, in place of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, for the time being, to perform the services under the jurisdiction of the Jathedar in addition to his own work.

Along with this, in the meeting of the Interim Committee, it has also been decided to provide financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh to the family of S. Satnam Singh, who died while serving the Nishan Chola at Gurdwara Sri Kandh Sahib Batala. Apart from this, matters related to various Gurdwara Sahibs, educational institutions, Trust Department and other works related to Shiromani Committee were discussed and simplified.

The meeting of the Interim Committee was attended by SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, Senior Vice President S. Raghujit Singh Virk, Junior Vice President S. Baldev Singh Kalyan, General Secretary S. Sher Singh Mandwala, Interim Committee Members S. Amrik Singh Vichhoa, S. Surjit Singh Tugalwal, S. Paramjit Singh Khalsa, S. Surjit Singh Garhi, S. Baldev Singh Qaimpur, S. Daljit Singh Bhinder, S. Sukhharpreet Singh Rode, S. Ravinder Singh Khalsa, S. Jaswant Singh Pudain, S. Paramjit Singh Raipur, Chief Secretary S. Kulwant Singh Mannan, OSD S. Satbir Singh Dhami, Secretary S. Pratap Singh, Eng. Sukhminder Singh, Additional Secretary S. Gurinder Singh Mathrewal, Personal Secretary S. Shahbaz Singh, Deputy Secretary S. Gurnam Singh, S. Balwinder Singh Khairabad, S. Harbhajan Singh Waqta, Legal Advisor Advocate Amanbir Singh Siali etc. were present.
