CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) Working President Balwinder Singh Bhundar today made an appeal for panthic unity to estranged Akali leaders besides urging them to participate in the party’s membership drive.
In a statement here, the Working President urged the estranged leaders to fulfill their moral responsibility towards coming generations by forgetting past resentments and uniting with the party in the spirit of mutual respect and trust. He said this was essential in view of the dangers facing Punjab and the Panth and was in the larger interest of Punjabis.
Appealing to the estranged leaders he said “I have requested you several times earlier also to strengthen the only regional party in Punjab by participating in the membership drive of the party. I reiterate today that the doors of the party office are open to you at all times and you are welcome to collect the required membership slips to participate in the recruitment process”.
Mr Bhundar also asserted that Punjab and the entire Khalsa Panth were currently going through a critical period and that heinous attacks were taking place against its religious existence, heritage and identity. “Anti-Sikh forces have captured our religious institutions including Takht Sri Hazoor Sahib and Takht Sri Patna Sahib besides creating a separate Gurdwara Committee for Haryana. Now these attacks have reached the doorsteps of our holy and historic Gurdhams in Punjab including Shri Amritsar Sahib and our religious institutions including Shiromani Gurdwara Managing Committee. This is the time to protect the great heritage of the nation and the State from external conspiracies”, he added.
The Working President also detailed how the SAD had constantly protected the dignity, reputation and identity of the Panth and Punjab. “We have also achieved historic victories by remaining united. Now even though the workers of SAD have completed the recruitment process and the same was welcomed by the erstwhile Jathedar Sahib of Shri Akal Takht Sahib, I have reiterated my offer for panthic unity in the larger interest of the Panth.
