CHANDIGARH: Punjab Youth Congress president Mohit Mohindra today expressed concern over delay in starting paddy procurement in Punjab and said that farmers might suffer big losses due to apathy of Bhagwant Mann government.
In a statement Mohit Mohindra said that government agencies were not making purchase in the mandis and farmers are making panic sale to private traders at cheaper rates. He said that in many districts farmers were not harvesting the crops and it is being damaged due to storms. He said that AAP government had made tall promises with the farmers but it failed to protect the interests of farmers.
PYC president said that state government had also failed to resolve the issues of sheller owners and Ahrtiyas. Chief Minister has failed to effectively peruse the lifting of grains by center. There is no storage capacity in Punjab now which is leading to total collapse of system.
He said that this was first time that procurement of paddy was not started in time. He said that during the Congress government smooth procurement was done and MSP was paid. He said that under AAP government farmers were unlikely to get the MSP because farmers are forced to make panic sale. He said that bad weather could play havoc with the farmers. He also pointed out that delay in procurement will also result in Wheat sowing.
Mohit Mohindra warned the Bhagwant Mann government, it will face the wrath of farmers if procurement was not streamlined in the state. He also demanded strict checking of paddy being smuggled into Punjab from other states at the cost of local farmers.
